How many persons with a Muslim background have come through your Teen Challenge center? With a growing presence of Muslims in our nation, we have opportunities to bring the truth of Jesus to them. Muslim families also deal with drug abuse, and we have the best solution.
I want to recommend the book The Torn Veil for your students and staff. It is the story of Gulshan Esther, a Muslim teenager who was crippled since early childhood. Her mother died when she was young and her father died when she was 19. Shortly after her father’s death, Jesus appeared to Gulshan and healed her. She then became a believer and through many struggles, devoted her life to following Jesus.
Over half the book is her story of God at work in her life and the challenges she faced as an outcast from her family. It is a powerful and compelling story of faith in action today.
The Torn Veil is a great book showing what it means to be a true believer in Jesus. It also shows her growth as a new believer, learning how to walk in obedience to Jesus every day.
This book is great for those with a Muslim background. But it is also an excellent story for those who know little about the Muslim faith or culture.
Reading this book makes you want to depend more on Jesus every day.
This book could be offered to your students at any point in the program. It has special value for students in their early months in the program, when they may be struggling with some of the same issues Gulshan describes in her early walk with Jesus.
This book is also a great tool for staff training, giving you insight into the mindset of the Muslim culture and religion. Gulshan does a great job of describing the struggles she experienced as a Muslim and how different it was once she became a follower of Jesus.
