PSNL 107: Exposing the Nature of Addiction

Adult & Teen Challenge USA is proud to announce the release of its first study in the Breaking Free series: PSNL 107 – Exposing the Nature of Addiction! This introductory study provides us with straightforward insight into the very nature of addiction.  We are challenged to make hard-hitting assessments of how addiction has affected or is affecting our lives (and the lives of those we love).  This is the first step in breaking free from addiction because addiction thrives in darkness (denial, confusion, and manipulation).

The goal of this study is to expose the darkness of addiction to the light of God’s Word—the truth.  The Bible teaches that we are all born addicted…addicted to sin.  We may have different addictions (i.e. drugs, alcohol, pornography, rage, lust, sex, gossip), but we all face this truth.

We live in a fallen world and temptations abound.  So, how do we step out of that darkness and stay out?  WE SHINE THE LIGHT OF TRUTH EVEN WHEN IT’S UNCOMFORTABLE, DIFFICULT, OR PAINFUL!

We no longer cower in darkness and fear.  We root ourselves in light by seeking truth.  This PSNL series exposes the truth about ourselves, our sins, sins’ consequences, and, most importantly, the power of Jesus to redeem it all.

But how can we confront such darkness?  How can we shine light on the darkest parts of ourselves and stand unashamed?  Because to do so honors Jesus’ sacrifice.  We honor Him by standing in our truth and surrendering it all to Him.  Not just the parts we are proud of or the parts we can stomach, all of it—the good, the bad, and the ugly.

The study answers these questions and more!  Questions like:

  • Why is it important to understand the nature and effects of addiction?
  • What does the Bible say about addiction?
  • How can we define addiction, tolerance, and withdrawal?
  • How does addiction affect us spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially?
  • Where can we find hope and freedom from addiction?

The question is, will you join the battle?  Will you cower in darkness, defeated, or will you go on a journey with us and step into the light?  Will you fight back by seeking truth?  We won’t hold back any punches.  We will expose the very nature of addiction and how it affects us physically, mentally, and emotionally.  We will also confront the destructive path it carves into our relationships with God and others.  This won’t be an easy journey, but hope, joy, and freedom await us on the other side.  Let’s expose this darkness by turning on the LIGHT!

This study is available for purchase today on the Adult & Teen Challenge USA website.

Student Feedback

“This study challenged the way I viewed addiction. Before I completed this study, I viewed my addiction to alcohol as a disease. What I realized is that it doesn’t matter if I believe addiction is a disease or a sin, because they can both be healed through Christ. He heals our diseases and forgives our sins.”

“This study taught me that no matter how big or deep my addiction is, God can help me overcome it.  This gave me hope.”

“This study challenged my view of addiction in a Biblical way by showing how God views addiction and how we can overcome it through biblical principles.”
