“She didn’t hear my heart”

“I told her but she didn’t hear my heart.”

I overheard this as I was walking by two individuals talking. This conversation could have easily been about any combination of people. It could have been an individual talking about their best friend. Maybe it was a staff member talking about their director. Perhaps a married person talking about their spouse.

The demands of ministry are so great it is easy to allow the opportunity to hear someone’s heart slip by. But how often do we want someone to hear our heart? Do you remember a time when someone stopped long enough to hear what was important to you and acknowledged and validated what you said?

God has put you in a unique place of ministry. Sometimes that means stopping to listen and hear what is in someone’s heart. Listening not only to the words, but for the meaning and passion behind the words.

Think back to a time when someone connected with you in that way. What was it like? Imagine connecting with someone in that way today by taking the time to stop and listen. Envision how it could lighten their burden and make their day a little brighter.

The scene would have been different if the words I heard in passing would have been, “She heard what was in my heart”. The person would have had a smile of contentment on their face and in their heart.

Today it is within your power to hear someone’s heart.

Listen so that others will want to speak.
