“He who goes out weeping, bearing the seed for sowing, shall come home with shouts of joy, bringing his sheaves with him.” -Psalm 126: 6 ESV
Sowing and weeping – we could get into a long discourse about all the applications of this verse but I see two simple truths:
1. Sowing – is simply proclaiming the truth of God. (Matthew 13)
“For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?” – Romans 10:13-14 ESV
Preaching = Sowing.
Our job is not to convict or convince of the truth; that job belongs to the Holy Spirit!! (John 16:8-11)
2. Weeping – refers simply to intercession.
Our most important job as a TC staff member is simply to proclaim the truth and intercede for our students.
Someone once said, “No one is saved except someone prays for them.” When I first heard that statement, I objected. But after a lot of reflection and thought, I personally believe that it is true. If you study any great move of God in history – a spiritual awakening – you will find people were praying months and years before it began to happen.
2 Timothy 2:22-26 tells us that those who oppose the truth are held captive by Satan to do whatever he wants them to do. Do I believe that I can set them free from Satan’s imprisonment? No way! The battle it will take to set them free is a spiritual one – one done first and foremost on my knees. What am I supposed to do once I have the whole armor of God on?Pray! (See Ephesians 6:10-19)
“First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people ……..This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” – 1 Timothy 1:2-4 ESV
“They weep as they go to plant their seed, but they sing as they return with the harvest.” -Psalm 126: 6 NLT
May our hearts be broken once again for our loved ones, friends, students, and graduates and even those who have left the program. There is no where they can go to hide from the Holy Spirit! And may we pray for the lost and those yet to enter the doors of our programs.
We may have singing and celebration harvest moments along the journey but the true and final joy and harvest is yet to come. Keep sowing. Keep weeping.
