The New International Reader’s Version (NIrV) is an English translation of the Christian Bible. Translated by the International Bible Society (now Biblica) following a similar philosophy as the New International Version (NIV), but written in a simpler form of English. The NIrV seeks to make the Bible more accessible for our Teen Challenge students who have difficulty reading English, such as non-native English speakers. The authors describe it as a special edition of the NIV written at a third-grade reading level.
The NIrV is even easier to read and understand. Words of the NIV are used when possible. Sometimes shorter words are used. Words are explained that might be hard to understand and sentences are made shorter.
Other things were done to make the NIrV a helpful Bible version for Teen Challenge students. For example, sometimes a Bible verse quotes from another place in the Bible. When that happens, the author puts the other Bible book’s name, chapter, and verse right there. They have separated each chapter into shorter sections and given a title to almost every chapter. Sometimes a title is given to the shorter sections. This helps them understand what each chapter or section is all about.
